Tooraj Pourmand

Tooraj Pourmand was born in Ahvaz, Iran, in 1948. He earned his Master of Arts in Architectural Design from Tehran University and joined the Faculty of Fine Arts and Decorative Arts there in 1974.

His work has since inspired artists and designers around the world. Renowned for his watercolor paintings, Tooraj is celebrated for his authentic depiction of everyday beauty, which resonates through his portraits, landscapes, and still life compositions.

Throughout his distinguished career, Tooraj has remained dedicated to watercolor as his medium of choice, mastering its diverse techniques and styles. He views watercolor as a language with a vast vocabulary, enabling endless experimentation and expression.

One of his painting teachers remarked during his first solo exhibition in 1969, "It’s quite clear that you have mastered the techniques of watercolor, and now you’re ready to express your inner voice."

Tooraj Studio aims to showcase a snapshot of his work and opens up the opportunity for students to connect with the artist through his workshop.


Tooraj believes that watercolor is the most intimate form of art for communicating one’s humanity. He has exhibited his work globally, with showcases in major cities like Tehran, Los Angeles, New York, and Paris.
